This is the time of the year when I am constantly begging my clients and students to drink lots of fluids. I'm pretty sure they're sick and tired of me harping on this but I'd rather they got pissed at me for caring than crying at their funeral.
Drink. Before, during and after any activity. More than the typically touted 8-8oz glasses of water/day. If you're working out for an hour or more, you need to ingest 7-10 oz of water (fluids) every 10-20 minutes. When it's this hot out, you need to drink more fluids too. If you need to be outside in this heat you need to drink even more.
If you wait until you're thirsty, you have already begun the dehydration process.
If you have pets to walk like I do, you need to be sure that the sidewalk or whatever the pets feet are traipsing on isn't going to burn their foot pads. You can buy little booties for your pet but be prepared to take some time to get them accustomed to wearing them. They don't like them all that much at first at least. Also just them being in the heat is rough on them. They don't sweat like we do, they pant. If you're out there in this kind of heat, you know you need water and so do they.
We are about 75% water. Our blood, our cells, our skin, our organs, our brain surrounded by and containing water. When we sweat we are losing water that makes up a large portion of us and we need to replenish it.
In the next few blogs coming out I'll be talking about heat related issues, my favorite new tou, the beamfit beam, going back to some dance classes and more I'm sure.
So stay healthy, stay active, stay hydrated.
Keep dancing and peace out.
