I had my birthday in Oct. and then went on another cruise with my sis G. This time to the western Caribbean. Right in time for the largest hurricane ever recorded to hit. I was not about to let this thing hinder my plans.
G. even got a phone call from the airlines asking if we wanted to change our reservations. I said "NO!" She was worried 'cuz we were flying in to Houston and then driving via shuttle to Galveston, Tx. right in the path of the storm, I was determined. By the time we flew, the cat 5 hurricane had been downgraded to a tropical depression. Ha-ha.
I will admit it was kinda dicey driving through Galveston.
When we got blown aboard ship we ended up having to stay in port in Galveston overnight because of the storm. They'd closed the port. G. & I along with most folks took it all in stride.
I'm not sure how, but our captain managed to get us to all 3 ports of call, Cozumel, Belize and Honduras but in reverse order. Who cares! And...if you did care, you couldn't do anything about it anyways, right? Right.
There wasn't much to do that 1st night since we were still in port but we made do with what there was. The casino and most of the bars couldn't open but we managed to find a bar open along with the wine bar and had a good time. We met some wonderful people on board the ship as well as a few a__holes but such is life. We didn't deal with too many jerks so the good truly outweighed the bad.
I will say, that I witnessed a bit of bigotry/racism that I'd never had to witness before. Actually, I'd missed the worst of it 'cuz I was already ready to smack this 1 guy so I tuned him out. But, having heard him lean out the elevator and say "Merry Christmas." on Halloween (our final night on the cruise) I looked over at G. She was not happy and said something to the effect of "thats not cool,". I asked her later what had happened and she told me that there were the 3-4 Muslim woman waiting to get on an elevator. We had seen them throughout the cruise. Apparently, this jerk said something like "not on this elevator." " Merry Christmas". Unbelievable!
I'm not sure if its a good thing that I didn't get the whole of his stupidity or not. As I said, I already told him if he touched my costume again, I was "gonna smack him upside the head." Thats when I tuned him out. I didn't want to spend my last night in the brig. Just to help you understand, I was a bunch of grapes and had purple balloons pinned all over me with a vine draped through and over my head.
Sorry, I just had to vent.
Anyways, all in all we had a fabulous time. even if G. wouldn't get in her costume. Butthead!
Back to the trip. We went snuba diving in Honduras which is using an O2 hose rather than a tank with a regulator. In Belize we zip-lined and hiked 30 min. to do cave tubing after the zip line. OMG! Was this the highlight of the trip or what? So much fun and exhilaration. The water cold and just what we needed after sweating up a storm zip-lining in the rain forest.
I'll admit, on each of the 6 zip runs we did, I had to have a little "come to Jesus meeting," with myself to step off of the platform, but once I did, YA-HOO!
In Cozumel, we went to a small but important Mayan ruins site. I spent most of my time photoing the huge iguanas roaming around. Then we went to some hotel on the beach and had lunch and laid around in the pool. I didn't want to just stand there for 45 min. as the guide spoke. Sorry, but no.
G. cracked me up. Every time we'd go to the elevators to go somewhere, she'd stand in the little balcony and call out "Helloooo!" and do her parade wave to her "minions." as she called them. Only once did someone wave back at her though. Every single time. What a nut.
This vacation was the best yet. We were both on the same page. We did so much activity and slept like logs at night (when we finally went to bed,). Our stateroom was as far to the front of the ship as you could possibly get and the restaurants were all at the back of the ship so we walked a lot. The ship was huge. I honestly thought I wouldn't like being on that big of a ship but it didn't feel that way at all. Except in heels!
The vacation was sorely needed and worth every bit of vacation time I had.
When I got back to work it was rough getting my rhythm back. Plus, everyone was fighting some sort of illness which finally got me. My throat and face feeling hot and scratchy. Last night I ordered some Wah Won Ton Soup for dinner at the nearby Chinese restaurant. Full of broth, chicken, pork, won tons and veggies. I still woke up this morning sounding like Bowser from Sha-an-na! Not good, so I took the day off.
By the way, I did put back on 5#'s while on vacation but I'm not worried. They'll be off in a jiffy, I have no doubt
Take those vacations people, they are necessary to keep you sane and grounded. Work will still be there when you get back. You need to take care of yourself to be able to take care of others.
The holidays are coming, so is flu season. So start now, fluids, wear appropriate clothing for the weather and activities, wash your hands frequently and smile, you'll feel better.
Peace out folks and keep dancing.
