Holidays, Food Comas and Weight Gain?

Alrighty then, it's that time. Here come the holidays. Lots of parties, baked goodies, cocktails, family gatherings, football to you can't watch 1 more fumble or touchdown, the Macy's parade, eating 'til you can't budge, food comas and weight gain.

This week is the triptophan-filled, sleep inducing Turkey fest. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Well, the weight gain doesn't need to happen and we all know it. So, prepare yourself ahead of time. Here are some simple steps to avoid over-stuffing yourself and feeling like the turkey itself.

1) Don't eat 'till you burst. Just eat 'til you're satisfied. Trust me, it'll all still be there a little later if you wish to go back for more.
2) Try just a little of everything you like on your plate at a time. Don't forget the veggies either.
3) Dessert will be there for some time after dinner.
4) Don't fill up on bread, try the salad or veggies first.
5) Try not to drink too much. Maybe a cocktail before dinner, some wine with dinner and some coffee, decaf of course, after.
6) Doggie bags are welcome in our feasts.
7) don't beat yourself up if you over-indulge. There's always tomorrow.
8) Take a walk after dinner!

Just pace yourself. Keep in mind the simple equation... calories in vs. calories out. Keep up with your fitness regimen.

Enjoy the time together.Think about all of the wonderful things in your life. There'll be many folks out on the streets after awhile so be attentive while driving, if driving.

I love this holiday most of all over the others because it has nothing to do with religion. It's solely for being thankful, for what you have, for what you love, for whom you love, for being in this amazing country, for the freedoms we have, for the food we eat and the list is endless really.

Me, I'm so very thankful that for my entire career I've done what I love to do, dance and teach dance, help people reach and achieve their healthy goals, allowing people to believe in themselves and gain confidence and pride in themselves. Does it get any better than that, I ask you? I'm thankful for my family being able to be together, with a few exceptions being too far away to make it. I'm thankful of the handful of people I call friend and the many other acquaintances from whom I've shared, worked and played alongside of and learned from, my boys Cray-ray, Putney & cousin Rowdy.

What are you thankful for? Think about it, write them down, enjoy.

After this we have a slew of religious holidays and then New Years. Stay safe and keep dancing.

Peace out
