Another friend wants to take me for sushi. Actually, she wanted to take me last week but alas, the 7th and final game of the World Series was on with my beloved Giants. How could I miss that? If you perhaps live under a rock I'll tell you, The Giants won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A couple of other chums wanted to take me out dancing last Tues. but that was game 6. I just couldn't miss it. One other friend wants to give me a facial as a gift. She just passed her boards so, Yay for me!
This year I got a few kids for Halloween. That was better than last year when I got none. That made me happy to see little kids even just the few I got.
I feel so bad for kids these days. They don't get to play on their own outside, Halloween is trashed. we need to get some fun for kids again so they can just be kids.
This last week we had a Master class, of sorts, for the dance instructors, in West African dance. OMG! I was in heaven. I went all out in this class taught by the crazy, incomparable Jade Bealle. I was throwing and jumping and feeling every nerve in my body rejoicing. I haven't cut loose that much in so long.
I was also stiff as could be the next day, as I knew I would be. It figures that Putney decided that he wanted to trot most of the walk. I looked ridiculous I'm sure, quickly waddling down the access road. I was laughing at least. I can't begin to express how magical it was to dance that way again. Guess who'll be going back to African class this next week. Ye-haw! I can't wait. The funny thing was that it was my good leg that was the stiffer of the 2 now. Oh well, I'm dancing full out again.
Thursday, I woke up to some kind of "bug." I had an issue as my meals were flowing out faster than I was ingesting them. Yuck! I stayed home all day Fri. except to walk the boys and go to the store for Gatorade, melon and chips (for salt). I didn't want to be too far from my bathroom.
I finally ate a fried egg sandwich around 6:30 pm for dinner. It stayed for the most part, thankfully. Today, Saturday, I feel much better indeed but I haven't pushed the food agenda too much either. I did get out to take a belly dance class and manged ok. Trying to just eat some bland foods. No coffee either for 2 days now. actually, I did have some decaf today though. Seemed to be fine.
Now, on to Mom. She's in the adult care home now. She can't leave, she can't cook without help, she can't throw too much of her money at people 'cuz there aren't as many begging there. we also only give her $20./week now (in $1 bills) My sis has decided to not forward mom's mail to this place. She got more junk mail of anyone I'd ever known. She must've been on everyone's "hit" list. Every sweepstakes company, every scam that sends you a check for a ridiculous amount, others saying if you send them $, they'll send you a big sum of $. Unbelievable! ...And she would! Even more unbelievable. But, thats the dementia talking. The funny thing is is that money is the only thing she'll remember. If she got her change from what you picked up for her, how much is in her wallet, etc. But she'd send it out to each and every "get rich quick" scam around.
Dementia is 1 tragic disease. and those people that target seniors especially are pathetic. The incredible distortion that goes on in the minds of those afflicted is so sad.
I found an article on the web titled "5 Money Problems That Might Foreshadow Dementia" written by Paula Spencer Scott. Here's the link on caring.com;
Here are some of the warning signs of dementia with regards to financial issues.
Warning sign #1 - trouble counting change
Warning sign #2 - checkbook balance mistakes or in writing checks
Warning sign #3 - neglecting to pay or duplicate paying of bills
Warning sign #4 - falling for scams and mail frauds
Warning sign #5 - confusion at the ATM
I wish I'd known these symptoms sooner 'cuz mom'd been through most of these. The only 1 I don't recall is the last 1 but a huge "YES" on the other 4.
Luckily, my sis' been monitoring mom's money for some time now, over 10 years. She got her debt free and has sent back countless items mom has bought off the tv. Of course never remembering what it was. G. took away all credit cards and the ATM card as well. Mom has no access nor is she familiar with the internet and we told her new place to not teach her about it either. She only knows how to play solitaire on the computer.
These people are victims x's 2. The disease and the scammers who prey on them. Take care of your loved ones and do what you must. They won't be happy at first but in the long run all be better for it.
Keep dancing folks.
