I took her to the vet and apparently her anal glands were fully impacted. It's so weird because there were absolutely zero outward signs of issue until I came home from work that day. See, she doesn't do any "business" on our walks.
So now she's on anti-biotics, pro-biotics, anti-inflammatory's, is needing me to soak her tail 2-3 x's/day and is wearing the "cone of shame." Poor thing bashes into everything but her tail is getting better. We are in a battle to save her tail but I believe we're winning.
She is greeting me at the door again, greeting me when I get up in the morning again, wagging her poor, bare tail again and eating out of her bowl again. Yes, with the cone on. I have been hand-feeding her boiled chicken since this started and still giving her some but including some of her kibble and the broth from the boiled chicken.
She does still go after the tail a little but I think it's healing and probably itches. Of course the cone prevents her from getting to it.
When I told the vet tech that I would do (pay) what was needed for her he was pretty happy and said, " Now, thats what I like to hear." I forgot that some pet owners are irresponsible and won't take care of their animals. They get rid of them or worse, "put them down." I don't understand that at all. My life is made so much better with my animals in it. I can't conceive of not helping them. If you have a pet, for cryin' out loud take care of them or give them to someone who will.
They are a responsibility, a gift and you must care for them.
Ok, ok, I'm off the soapbox but I am serious. give them what they give you, everything.
Take care, keep dancing and ...PEACE
