Bionics, Electronics & Hospital Food

Oh for heavens sake, I just had to ask what other electronics would die on me and I got my answer. My @#%$^&* phone. I was walking Putney when he stopped to smell the same ole spot right in front of the house and I kept going. It jerked me and I dropped my phone. I didn't realize 'til hours later that the display was officially dead and therefore, so is the phone. The day before my surgery. Perfect. I went to Costco, bought a new phone, changed company's and apparently since the display is dead I lose all of my contacts. Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Just great, right? Oh well, I'll retrieve most of them eventually.

I just started to laugh when I got into my pre-op appointment and the nurse wanted to take my blood pressure and other vitals. I told that they were probably over the top and boy were they. Nothing like being a little anxious re; phone hell, surgery etc. It was something like 200/99! Yikes! She decided to try the other arm and it was a bit calmer but not by much. Oh well, whats a body to do?

Anyways, I got all of the prelim. stuff done and then home to wait it all out. Ate a huge meal 'cuz I figured it was the last for sometime and again I was correct. Had G. take some pictures along the way so I will feature them from time to time for your amusement.

Ok, back to the knee problem. Here's a picture of my legs as I was going into prep for pre-op. You can see how my R knee really bends inward now mostly in part to protect it from the pain. This is also something they are going to fix for me. At least as much as possible.

Boy, it really looks awful doesn't it. I used to have such great legs, if I do say so myself. But I'll be getting them back soon. Ha-ha!

It's called a Valgus Knee Deformity & is often caused by arthritis.

This is a picture of me in my lovely operative outfit. Sadly, we didn't get the yellow no-skid slipper socks in this photo. The cap was blue, gown was purple and yellow socks. Some folks would say that those color combinations were the norm for me. Guess, at times they'd be right.

G. thinks I'm nuts having her take these pictures of me but I don't think she knows that I wanted to share this with all of you. So, there you have it.

I am home now having spent 2 nights in the hospital. I have to tell you, everyone there was amazing. I felt so cared for. I will say that as predicted, I didn't really eat anything solid, except for a cracker, until Wednesday night. Then that was the broth from some soups. They kept bringing me all of this food that made me gag. The first night I was given chicken cacciatore, spaghetti with red meat sauce, steamed mixed veggies and garlic bread. Really? I don't think so. It took me hours, and I do mean hours, to get down 2 saltine crackers. Yuck. The next morning they brought me some scrambled eggs with veggies in them, a sausage patty, fried potatoes, oj & coffee. Oh no! Didn't get that down either. Back to a cracker. Finally, I got asked what I wanted so I ordered some chicken noodle soup, I only have the broth & chicken pieces and a chef's salad. Was able to eat most of that but not all. Ordered plain scrambled eggs and bacon with 2 cups of coffee for the next morning (Thurs.) and was able to eat it all. That was my last hospital meal for me. G. brought me a delicious burger & fries & a coke from Burger King.I know bad girls but they did taste amazing and I ate it ALL.

G. wanted to finish her day at work so I stayed there until she got off and then home again, home again, home at last.

it's been quite an adventure navigating through all of the animals (3 with G.'s pooch Rowdy), furniture moves to accommodate the equipment needed for my recuperation like the CPM, continuous passive movement, and the polar box of ice water.

I've managed to walk without the walker somewhat but I'm not trying to overdo it. Too many obstacles.

I must say these meds really help do the trick. I forgot to take a pill last night before going down for the night & had a good bit of pain but I made it through the night. G. & I decided that she should go ahead & wake me if I forget again. I didn't want to wake her in the middle of the night either so we have that issue dealt with for the future.

I'm gonna take a break now, eat some breakfast and relax.

Thanks Robin, I certainly will. It's really a strange experience for me. It hurts but I was expecting to really be severely incapacitated & painful but I'm doing pretty good. I'm sure the drugs are helping on that score. I'm trying to lighten up on the heavy stuff though. But not too quickly.

Love ya back.
