OMG! I Think I Broke My Baby Toe

True statement. I really think I broke it. Not gonna worry too  much about it but it is swollen and bruising. Ugh! Kicked right into the foot of the recliner chair in the living room. It does hurt but I also know that there really isn't anything to do about it. I've tried a little traction (pulling lightly on it) to reset but I've done this kinda thing so many times in my life.

By the way, this is not my foot but it is what mine looked like. I had to tape the toe to my 4th toe and ultimately the rest of the foot. Can't wait to try to dance on it again

Way back in te day, I used to teach Jazz dance on a basketball court, barefoot. I often would dis-locate my baby toes doing turns, especially pirouettes. I'd begin the turn and my toe would stick to the floor, as I turned it would dis-locate, as I finished the turn it would pop it back in. Then I'd tape my toes together to stabilize it. Hope I can find my athletic tape tonight. I am such a klutz!

Oh well, watcha gonna do?

New subject. Breakfast. Do you eat it? Some time ago I had stopped eating breakfast. With a little nutritional education, I came to the realization that that was not a good idea. Your body is such an amazing piece of machinery that it will protect itself from harm whenever possible.

When you don't eat before working out, and I don't mean eat like a fool, your body will hold on to what it has.So if you don't eat breakfast to lose weight you are probably destroying what you're trying to accomplish.

Simple analogy. Think of your body like a car. It won't run without fuel. You need to have something in you to perform adequately. You'll poop out and your body will think it's empty and save the fat (fuel) to prevent bottoming out.

When I added breakfast back into my life, I actually lost 6 #'s! Now, it had been so long since having something before exercising, I couldn't eat anything solid for quite some time. So, I started with fruit smoothies. It gave me the fuel necessary to allow my body to burn some storage. Now I can eat a little solid something in the morning and it helps keep me going.

I asked my sis if she ate before her workouts and she said "no." I asked her to give it a try. Just something small, and she's lost 4#'s already. She just eats 1 of 2 hard-boiled eggs before and the other when she gets to work. I do believe it's the combination of the eating and the workouts but it's great that that happened for her. She's not really concerned about weightloss but endurance based strength. so the loss was a bonus for her.

We all don't drop the lb's the same. We know that men merely need to say they want to lose weight and BAM...20 #'s disappears from them. Aggravating isn't it? I know, I know, that isn't really how it goes, but it sure seems that way to me.

But my point is this, I don't believe in dieting but I do believe in nutrition. However, different combinations work differently on each of us. what works for me amy not work for you. We know too much sugar is not good for us but anything ingested out of proportion is an issue. Too much protein, too much carbs., too much fat. So be sensible, put lots of color on your plate, eat to satisfaction not stuffed. Don't be afraid of putting some back in the fridge. Eat 1/2 of whats on your plate, or in my case, only put 1/2 on the plate. (If I don't see it, I don't miss it!) It's our own personal wiring we need to contend with.

Cook once in a while. Me, I love to cook so thats not a problem for me but some folks eat out all of the time and the proportions can be ridiculous.

Drink more water! Water, water, water! Very important to our body's. Drop the amount of sodas or cut them out completely. By the way, diet sodas are just as bad, if not worse so cut them out too.

I'm now eating smaller portions and eating more often. Lots of veggies and more fruits than before. yeah, yeah, yeah, lots of sugar in fruits but its natural sugars and the body can deal with them better than the others. So there!

Here's a raspberry for ya. I thought this little guy would be cuter than me doing it.

You'd have to drink so much water to flush out a soda, you'd slosh as you walked.

I had a client who drank  a lot of sodas/day and couldn't figure out why he wasn't losing weight with all of his workouts. I asked him to cut back/out on the sodas and he did lose 20#'s in a month.

Some say to flush out 1 12oz. can of soda you should drink 3 glasses of water. Thats a small amount to me. I've heard more like 8 glasses of water to flush it out. That is in addition to the 8 glasses of water you should ingest/day as a human being. You know you need to ingest more if you exercise, right? Right.

Anyway, forget the soda, just go to the water. Simple.

Just remember, the simplest calculation to lose weight is fewer calories in than calories spent. If you need to gain weight, eat more calories than you spend and f you want to maintain your weight equal calories in and out. Calories in vs. out.

Well, chat later.

Keep dancein' and Peace

I have a lot to be thankful for. I have a family that loves me, I have work and can take care of myself, I have friends I care about some of who care back. (I'm sure you all know what I mean), I have my animals, my home ya-da-da-da-da!

But I have friends who are far away and I can't see them whenever I want and now, 2 more are going away. Please, don't get me wrong, I am really excited for them. They are young, newly wed, and moving on to a brand new chapter in their lives in another state so he can pursue his medical desires. Excellent, I'm just being selfish but why shouldn't I be? I really like these 2.

I've had my adventures in life and don't regret any of them. I think it's important to shake things up and see what you're made of in different environments and situations and I can't wait to hear about their experiences in a new world. Good journey my friends, good journey.

I got to see 2 other friends who have been teaching abroad for the last 3 years and plan to continue to do so for the near future. It was great to spend some time with them again. This time we got together, just us, well, and the other folks at a local brew pub that we didn't know.

I still have great friends from S.F. though some are scattered elsewhere nowadays but we still keep in touch. Friends, clients for over 30 years. Even some re-connections from high school, never you mind how long ago that was. Old boyfriends too.

Yes, I'm lucky and blessed. So, I'm moving on to this new chapter without my mom here. It still feels weird not going to see her each week. I did that for about 10 years and to not go feels so strange.

I pass by where she used to live and think I need to go visit, and remember she's gone.
I wonder how long that will take to get over?

On another note entirely, my sis' training is starting to show for her. I told her at the beginning she won't notice much, if anything, but that eventually, she'd notice little things and it happened last week.

First, the middle of the week she said her ring no longer stays upright on her finger. It now keeps sliding around it. Second, she called me after having babysat her beautiful granddaughter, stating that she was up & down on the floor and had absolutely 0 trouble getting off the floor now. YAY!

Changes to your body do take time to take effect people. We don't fall out of shape in a day and we don't get back into shape in a day either. I don't like to consider the scale so much as a measurement of accomplishment so I was excited for her to start to see some evidence of her hard work.

Now, maybe, we won't have any more of those blow-outs we'd gotten into a few weeks back. Nah, we'll get into it again, I'm sure. Thats just how we are with each other. Sisters!

I have started teaching a Belly Dance class for Beginners on Friday mornings at 11:30 am. Here's the flyer for it and I hope some of you can come and dance with us. We have a lot of fun and laugh and dance our hearts out.

This along with training and teaching aqua exercise classes has much of my mornings full but I do have many afternoons available to teach and train you. Remember, phone/on-line coaching is also available if we're not in the same area. Just sayin' folks. I'm here for ya.

I'd love to help you on your journey to a better you.

Peace and keep dancing
