I've been dealing with a little pain in the back of my L knee lately. I vaguely remember "tweeking" it 1 day but it hasn't stopped. It's hard to walk up or down the stairs or put weight on it and bend it and it swells up. I can pull it in to a great ROM but not so easy to step down on it. The GP doesn't believe that it's a Bakers cyst thankfully but it's truly annoying.
I went to my GP and had an x-ray taken. I finally called the Dr. since I heard nothing from them and was told I had mild osteoarthritis in the knee. Really? I already knew that, now what about the back of the knee? ...Crickets!... I've now requested an appoint at my ortho's office. Maybe I'll get some answers there.
What is a Baker's cyst? Also referred to as a Popliteal cyst, it's a build up of fluid behind the knee that can be a result of injury or rheumatoid/osteoarthritis.
Anyways, I take anti-inflammatory's prior to working out to reduce the swelling. I just want to make sure I haven't torn anything.
It does seem to feel better after being in the pool or when I elevate it. I get so tired of injuries but then I realize that many professional athletes retire around the age of 35-45 and I'm still going. Wusies! Just kidding. I've been in the business longer than they've been alive! Who's the pro now?
Well, I made to my surgeons office and he does believe it's a popliteal cyst but its pushing fluid to the back of my knee. He believes that because he moved my knee all over the place and there was no pain. It seems it's caused by the arthritis and he said just take it easy and it should be fine.
I'm on a new adventure in my life. My job and I have parted company and I can't begin to tell you the happiness I feel. I'm no longer stress eating, my knee feels so much better, I'm losing weight (so far 4.5 #'s in a week and a half). I've picked up a few classes at a club nearby and am happy for the 1st time in quite a while. I haven't taken any anti-inflammatory's since and my body feels rested and healthier as does my head. Plus, I'm getting a ton of stuff done around the house.
Delilah loves her longer walks each morning as do I. My garden is planted with zucchini, crook-neck squash, lettuce and tomatoes. All are springing up except the tomatoes and I've rigged a lattice fence around the beds to keep my little darling Cray-ray out of it.
I had some corners of a gazebo that got blown to smithereens and some lattice fencing that I'd bought years ago. I lashed them together with plant wire and it looks fantastic. I'm hoping to get some wonderful fresh veggies from the garden this year. Keep your fingers crossed.
Now, if you're in the Tucson area and in need of some Aquatic therapy or work, land or dance exercise or choreography or training contact me. I'm your gal. I have a warm indoor pool at my disposal if you don't have 1, and either your place or a studio rental to perform some land-based work.
Keep dancin' and be happy.
Peace
